  18. <p>     "Apartheid is a fence," says South African Johnny Clegg,
  19. "and I had to find a hole to climb through." He found it in
  20. music. With his band Savuka--Zulu for We Have Arisen--the
  21. white singer-dancer, is on a U.S. tour. At home, where
  22. some of his songs are still banned, white fans often tell
  23. Clegg, an inducted member of three Zulu clans, that they like
  24. his rocking African rhythms but hate his politics. When the
  25. going gets tough, it is African values--not Western ones--that teach him patience.
